چکیده

This paper reports measurements of yield stress of aqueous foams approaching the dry foam limit using a pendulum device. Traditionally, the vane rheometer has been used to measure the yield stress in liquids that exhibit wall slip. However, using the simple and inexpensive pendulum technique, shear rates many orders of magnitudes lower can be achieved. The pendulum was used to observe the change in yield stress for the foam as the gas fraction and bubble size increased. The local gas fraction in the foam was found by measuring the sonic velocity, and the bubble size was determined photographically. Strong support is found for the existence of a true yield stress in aqueous foams at the dry foam limit. Yield stress results, once scaled by s/^R&, agree well with data from previous studies. © 1998 The Society of Rheology. @S0148-6055~98!01006-2#

Using aqueous foams to synthesize cadmium sulfide nanoclusters

Surfactant based aqueous foams provide a very efficient and simple chemical route for the synthesis of various nanomaterials with controllable structure, size and shape. In this present work, a one-step process for the synthesis of morphologically controlled CdS nanoclusters has been described. Aqueous soluble CdCl2 and the surfactant AOT are homogeneously mixed together to produce a stable aqu...

Local stress relaxation and shear banding in a dry foam under shear.

We have developed a realistic simulation of 2D dry foams under quasistatic shear. After a short transient, a shear-banding instability is observed. These results are compared with measurements obtained on real 2D (confined) foams. The numerical model allows us to exhibit the mechanical response of the material to a single plastication event. From the analysis of this elastic propagator, we prop...

The Effect of Fe Additive on Plastic Deformation for Crush-Boxes with Closed-Cell Metal Foams, Part II: Al-Composite Foam-Filled brass tubes Compression Response

The brass tubes with foam cores of AlSi7SiC3, AlSi7SiC3Fe1 and AlSi7SiC3Fe3 were produced as the crush-boxes with circle and square cross-section. Then axial compressive behavior and energy absorption capability of the foam-filled tubes were investigated during the quasi-static progressive plastic buckling. The uniaxial compressive stress–strain curves of the foam-filled brass tubes exhibited t...

Prediction of positive and negative elastic dilatancy in 2D and 3D liquid foams

Liquid foams have been observed to behave like immersed granular materials in at least one respect: deformation tends to raise their liquid contents, a phenomenon called dilatancy. We present a geometrical interpretation thereof in foams squeezed between two solid plates (2D GG foams), which contain pseudo Plateau borders along the plates, and in 3D foams. While experimental observations eviden...

Particle?Stabilized Materials: Dry Oils and (Polymerized) Non?Aqueous Foams

Oil (liquids with low surface tension and practically immiscible with water) drops can be dispersed in air if relatively oleophobic particles are available. However, such particles with oil-repellent surfaces cannot simply be prepared by controlling the particle surface chemistry alone. Herein the preparation of oil-in-air materials (oil marbles, dry oils) by changing the wetting behavior of pa...
